Welcome to SaltFork Hunts!
Welcome to Saltfork Hunts! We are pleased to offer two seasons of hunting adventures.
Saltfork Hunts operates on a series of ranches covering over 17000 acres of pristine Texas and Oklahoma Deer and Rio Grande Turkey hunting land located along a series of
creek and river bottoms in the Panhandle region of Texas and Western Oklahoma.
We offer you an exceptional trophy free-range whitetail deer and Rio Grande turkey
hunting opportunity in one of the most productive natural habitats in Texas and Oklahoma. Saltfork Hunts has two distinct hunting operations: Whitetail Deer in the fall and Turkey hunting in the spring.
Whitetail Deer in fall and Rio Grande Turkey in spring.
Located near Wellington Texas, SALTFORK HUNTS provides the unique adventure of hunting trophy whitetail deer and magnificent long beard turkey gobblers on operating
cattle ranches that have been family owned since the 1880s. Other ranches have joined with us to further expand our hunting base. The ranches are blessed with an abundance
of free flowing water along the Saltfork River, Elm Creek, Panther Creek, and Bear Creek. These waterways give rise to large stands of cottonwood trees, which produce prime
roosting and feeding areas for Rio Grande Turkey and provide whitetail deer with ideal bedding and foraging habitat. Both the Texas and Oklahoma hunting areas have a
combination of water, cover and feeding areas that combine to make an ideal habitat for large Trophy Whitetail deer and hundreds of Rio Grande Turkey Gobblers. Long beards and heavy antlers abound!
The 2006 deer season was a very good one; the dry and
warm weather conditions of 2005 gave way to a normal rainfall but cold hunting season this past year. The deer just loved it and moved around most of the days. The
rut was very pronounced this pastseason and continued until late December. The largest deer taken was killed during opening week on a day with temperatures in the
low 60s. Our best scoring deer was killed on the river just a mile from the Highway 83 Bridge. An estimated green score was 167+. We had deer harvested from12
points to our minimum of 8. There continued to be many 2 year old deer which already exhibited eight point racks yet did not have the mast or the spread that they will
put on for the next season. Several large bucks got a "get out of jail free" card this year due to broken antlers but there were much fewer broken horns than in 2005.
Those broken horns deer should make for some real trophies during the upcoming 2007 season. Click here for 2006 weekly success rate.

Saltfork deer and turkey hunts, unlike some Texas and Oklahoma hunting operations are truly fair chase hunting experiences. There are no high fences or deer and turkey
hunting from blinds overlooking corn feeders. Ranch crops including alfalfa, winter wheat, and peanuts combined with lots of water and little deer and turkey pressure throughout
the year, will give you a chance to harvest a mature Rio long bearded gobbler or trophy whitetail deer that you can be proud to hang on your wall. Western Oklahoma and the
Texas Panhandle area are both renowned for the abundance and size of both whitetail deer and mature turkeys. Please take the time to visit our photo pages to see the quality
of our whitetail bucks and Rio Grande turkeys.
